Microsoft Opens Retail Store in NY, Puts Muggers Out of Business
Well, I guess Bill decided he wanted to open his own store after seeing Apple successfully operating 110 stores( and counting). But here is my question, what will it be like? I ask this with some trepidation because of these two facts:
1. The Apple store “feels” like OS X. It is clean, uncluttered, easy to use and full of really cool things.
2. Microsoft always copies Apple.
Do you see why I am afraid now? What will the store be like? Will you get a free punch in the face with every purchase? Will the employees try and pick your pocket while you are in line? Or maybe the store will just sell a crippled, buggy, insecure OS that requires half a dozen 3rd party pieces of software to get it to the point where it can almost function. Yes, that would be truly scary indeed.

there is no doubt apple stores are clean, nice and full of cool things. but i feel the writer above is making comparisons between apple products and microsoft employees which doesn’t make sense to me.
btw, my experience has been the same with apple stores: cool products, POOR customer service. so i just order online or over the phone.
Sarcasm aside, what would be in the Microsoft store that you couldn’t get easily from your local dealer? Are they going to undercut the prices of their competition on Office or XP Home? Wouldn’t that be anti-competitive?
The Apple store works because it is a way to showcase Apple products like a car showroom. The user gets a “hands on” experience with pretty hardware.
But MS doesn’t make hardware other than mice and similar peripherals. How will they showcase their software products? On Dells? Or HPs?
Is it going to be as exciting as a Gateway Country Store? (Sorry… the sarcasm slipped back in).
I love Apple as much as anybody, but I have also found that in many stores the customer service could use a lot of help. Usually there is a sense of chaos because there are so many people in the store and there is confusion among some employees. I’ve run into some Apple Store employees that are just a little too geektified and not exactly very personable. Overall though, I love the stores and have just had a few bad experiences with employees at the Sacramento store.
heyy which sacramento store?
I think i’ve only stopped by briefly in the one at arden mall
