Four Important Things I Saved But Can’t Remember Where -  A Cautionary Tale

Let this be a lesson….

1. The DVI to VGA Dongle for my PowerBook

I’ve had this PowerBook for two years and not once did I have to use it to do a presentation until last week. I know I had the dongle, I can even remember holding it in my hands thinking “someday I’m going to need this so I better put it somewhere safe.” Somewhere safe enough so I couldn’t find it when I actually needed it.

Last weekend, at a conference where of course I was giving a presentation, I was wandering the halls, grabbing anyone I saw with a PowerBook. They all lost their dongles. We were an entire conference, dongleless. What we needed was a dongle depot.

2. The part of the iPod to FireWire cable that can be plugged into a household power outlet.

You know, the brick. Just like the brick for your PowerBook (the one with the lost dongle) but smaller.

It would be nice to get some juice into my iPod without having to also have my PowerBook handy, but Mr. Smartypants here had to put it in the drawer along side the DVI to VGA dongle.

Are you starting to sense a pattern?

3. The two extra sets of earbud pads that also came with my iPod

The first set lasted about two weeks. Since then I’ve been wearing naked earbuds and frankly they are getting a bit… never mind.

Everytime I’m in the Apple Store I grab the $9.95 replacement pack of five full colored earbud pads. Then I put them back. I figure I’ll just look a bit harder to find the original ones.

I haven’t found them yet.

4.  The white Apple stickers that came with every Apple Computer I’ve ever owned

I keep thinking they would look really cool on the back of my car - next to the “What Would Jimmy Buffett Do?” bumpersticker.

I’ve got some white ones, some rainbow ones. 

But I can’t find any of them.

I do have my system disks. All of them. I’m not that bad.
